FAQ

  • How soon can you install my fence?

Installation time-frames depend on the type of fence being installed as well as the time of season purchased/ material availability. Projects requiring permits and material fabrication typically take around 5-6 weeks to be ready for install. Projects not requiring permits and/or material fabrication may be able to be started as soon as 2-4 weeks.

In the peak of the busy season, projects can take up-to 8+ weeks to be started. We will always be transparent about expected start dates.

  • Do you offer free estimates?

Yes, we offer free estimates. You can fill out a submission form on our website or give us a call at 845-221-8700 to schedule an appointment with one of our estimators.

  • Do you offer online preliminary estimates?

Yes, we have a software available called map my fence that allows you to type in your contact information and your address—from that it pulls up a parcel access image of your property where you can outline where you’d like your potential fence to go on your property and we can return a preliminary estimate based on that footage and the style you choose!

  • What would add additional costs to my estimate//project?

Any time the client adds materials that were not included in the original proposal such as sections, gates, posts, or hardware. Rock drilling can also increase your total cost of installation as this requires additional labor that was not originally accounted for in your original proposal. For any other information about additional costs to original proposals, contact our office at 845-221-8700.

  • Do you close for the winter?

We do not close for the winter. In the event that there is heavy snowfall or a wind chill of below -20 degrees, we will not be sending crews out on installs…other than that we stay open all year long!

  • Who is responsible for obtaining permits and or permissions for my fence installation?

As stated in our contracts provided to our clients who have received a proposal, the homeowner is 100% responsible for all permits and permissions pertaining to the fence. We are always willing to help our clients with any questions they may have regarding the permit process.

  • Who is responsible for deciding where the fence location will be?

The homeowner agrees to be responsible for the location of the fence prior to installation and after completion. This is also stated in our contracts.

  • How far down do you set the posts?

Answer: In the northeast - the "frost line" is the safe depth to which materials can be laid without being disrupted. The frost line varies from region to region. The frostline in Woodstock compared to Westchester or Westport or NJ is different. That said - the safe depth to cover all of these areas is between 15" and 20" - according to the U.S. Department of Commerce Weather Bureau's Average Depth of Frost Penetration statistics - however, our installers put the posts at a minimum of 24" and gate posts and end posts are installed 28-32" when possible. If there is an obstruction in the way ie: major roots are boulders - we use specialized concrete to add increased stability. The winter of 2021-2022 created a "once in a 100 years anomaly" which made the "frost line" aka "the safe depth" increase from 15-20" to 25-32" which did result in some gate posts heaving that had been installed years ago - on those rare occasions where the gate posts heave as a result of frost, Mid Hudson Fence Co will reinstall those gate posts FOC.

  • Are you fully insured?

Absolutely! We carry full liability, workers comp and disability insurance for our entire company.

  • What are the warranties on your fence products?

Included on the brochures' link that you see above, each product will indicate what the warranty length is for each product. There is not warranty on wood products whether it is cedar, pressure treated or other.

Our labor is warrantied for (1) year from date of install but this does not include “acts of god” which would be considered any weather related damage or things that were not directly caused by OUR installation of the fence.

  • How knowledgeable are your installation crews?

We have 6 installation crews that work for us year round. All of our foreman have worked for Mid Hudson Fence Co for 18-34 years. They are all experts in their knowledge of fence installation and all of our products.
